Bad Boys Do

Bad Boys Do - Victoria Dahl I'd say this is more like 4.5 stars for me. I really liked this book! Because we were seeing Jamie as others saw him in Good Girls Don't, I felt like I never really got to know him but that changed when I read this book. He's one of the most likable heroes I've read in a long time. The dialogue between him and Olivia is wonderful, and the love scenes were very well written. And I liked Olivia, too. I've known a lot of Olivias in real life, so I could totally believe her and Jamie's story. I loved seeing her learn to let down her guard and enjoy life a bit more. I know some reviewers mentioned the age difference and didn't see it as a big deal, but I've seen similar age differences in real life and I could see why Olivia would feel insecure. I'm not in academia, but in professional circles(at least in my part of the world), there seems to be some kind of invisible line drawn at 35 and if someone who is about 34/35 dates someone in their 20s, it does actually draw comments - particularly if it's the woman who is older. I think it's a sexist double standard, but after having seen it in action, I can understand a character feeling self-conscious about it.Even though the Donovans all still need to grow up a bit, I did like seeing that family dynamic develop over the course of this book. So far the continuing arc from book 1 through book 2 seems to be working, and I'll be curious to see where we leave them at the end. The backstory with the Kendalls doesn't entirely grab me, but they don't get too much page time in this book. All in all, a very fun read.
